Yes, this is true. It happened because juan got a three second time penalty due to cutting the corners and acse didn't get one. It made a Frenchman the winner of the race!
In the start, we need to mention about reserve drivers who took part: - mattypi in Red Bull (replacing kamilkomon)
- WiFi in Ferrari (replacing Noorloser who was late)
- kemot in Toro Rosso (replacing Fury)
- Krissstoferek in Haas (replacing Hartnell)
- HiMaR in Sauber (replacing Edzax)
In qualifying session, we saw many strong laps and... 7 retirements. The most common reason was crashing into pit lane wall, which was scary through all weekend. As a sensation we can call Jesper and realbarca - both Mercedes were... out of TOP 10. What's more, Jesper even retired in qualyfing. The pole sitter was juan, and koemmberger was second. Second row was closed for Renaults of matt and romm.
The start of the race was quite... dirty. There were lots of contacts, drivers on the grass, also WiFiSK had a lot of problems and as a result, his internet died.
That race was disaster for Silver Arrows - complete opposition to Brasil. JesperFey retired on Lap 1 when coming to the box, and realbarca barely got 9th place.
Spanish GP was finished by only 9 drivers. There were 2 disconnects (WiFi and Simo) and 9 retirements. How it all happened? First retired WiFi - due to his internet, which died. Before it he was repeatedly crashing into a wall, but still racing. Also Simo disconnected - but it was a ragequit. The Brit was driving for even TOP 5 finish, but after Turn 9 he crashed into a wall. He got a wing damage, but it was enough for him and he quited. Next retirements happened due to crashing into pit lane wall or after Turn 9, where many drivers span. The unluckers are for example: juregoj (who was racing on P4), WannabeSenna (he was even fighting for podium places on a while), kemot, mattypi et cetera.
Toro Rosso and Force India are the only teams which still doesn't have finished a race by even one driver. The second team was so close to do it, by JIMI. He was even leading for a second, but his medium tyres were wearing very quickly. After over 20 laps on this compound it finally had to happen. On lap 30, when the Dutchman was fourth, he was ovetaken by both Renaults. But the worse case was that he got a puncture at start/finish straight. He had to go one more lap to change the tyre, but after one sector he decided to retire, even whe was driving for a strong position.
Juan was coming to score his first win in ERO, in his home track. But he had 3-second time penalty and a runner-up acse didn't have one. Spaniard had enough gap to win until last 5 laps, when acse was closing to Ferrari driver. When juan crossed the line, he had a gap about 1.7 seconds, but it wasn't enough - Sauber driver had no penalties, so the race is won by Frenchman! There was big celebration on Sauber garage after well-managed victory!
This is the first time when a Dutchman didn't win the Grand Prix - both social races were won by Noorloser, and realbarca took the victory in Brazil.
